Trusted Phoenix Movers, Family-Owned for Over 35 Years

Jones Moving & Storage is run by Steve and Candice Jones. Steve started working in the moving industry at 16 in Birmingham, Michigan. Years later, a cross-country moving job brought the couple to Arizona, they fell in love with it, and they made Phoenix home. Today their two sons help run the company, so the people answering your call and planning your move are the family whose name is on the truck. Read the Jones family story.

Phoenix is a big city to move in. It stretches from the Deer Valley neighborhood around our office down past South Mountain to Ahwatukee, and from Laveen in the southwest to Desert Ridge in the north. From the historic neighborhoods of Encanto and Willo to the master-planned communities of Ahwatukee and the business corridors along Camelback Road and Central Avenue, we know the terrain, and we plan each move around the homes, streets and building rules at both ends.

One more thing that makes us different: whatever you decide not to take, we donate to Saving Amy, a Phoenix nonprofit, so the furniture and household goods you leave behind go to people who can use them.

How Much Do Movers Cost in Phoenix?

Local moves in Phoenix are usually priced by the hour, while long-distance moves are priced by weight and distance. Your Jones Moving & Storage quote is free, itemized and has no hidden fees. If the scope of the move changes, we tell you about any price change before we proceed.

Because every home is different, the fastest way to an accurate number is a quote built on your actual move. The factors below are what our Phoenix movers look at when we put one together.

Every quote covers:

  • A crew and moving truck for loading, transport and unloading
  • Furniture disassembly and reassembly on request
  • An itemized list of any add-ons you choose, such as packing, unpacking, specialty items or storage

What Drives the Price of a Phoenix Move

1

How much you are moving

The number of rooms matters, but so does how full they are. A furnished garage or a backyard patio set adds real time.

2

Distance across the city

Phoenix covers a lot of ground. A move from Laveen to Deer Valley takes longer on the road than a move within the same neighborhood.

3

Access at both homes

Stairs, long walks from the curb, gated entries, HOA truck rules and high-rise elevators all affect timing.

4

Packing and extra services

Full or partial packing, unpacking, furniture disassembly, and storage are added only if you want them.

5

Specialty items

Pianos, hot tubs, gun safes and pool tables need specialized equipment and extra care.

6

Date and time

Summer weekends and the last days of each month fill up first. Flexible dates give you more choice.

Local Movers in Phoenix: How Your Move Works

Every local move with Jones Moving & Storage follows the same five steps, so you know what happens and when.

Step 1: Free Quote

Fill in the quote form or call us. Tell us your move size, both addresses, any stairs or elevators, and items that need special handling. You get a clear, itemized quote with no obligation.

Step 2: Book Your Date

For local moves, booking 4 to 6 weeks ahead gives you the widest choice of dates. Long-distance moves need 6 to 8 weeks. If your timeline is shorter, we accommodate it whenever we can. We are available 7 days a week, so weekend moves are an option too.

Step 3: Packing, If You Want It

Pack yourself, or let our professional packing crew do it with sturdy boxes in a range of sizes, bubble wrap, packing paper, furniture pads, stretch wrap, mattress covers and specialty packing for fragile and high-value items. If you would rather pack on your own, ask us about moving supplies when you book. Already rented your own truck or container? We also offer labor-only loading and unloading.

Step 4: Moving Day

Your crew arrives on schedule, protects your furniture, takes apart pieces that need it, and loads the truck in a planned order. At the new home, we place every item in the room you choose and reassemble furniture on request.

Step 5: Settling In

Need help after the truck is empty? We offer unpacking, and if your new place isn't ready yet, our secure, climate-controlled storage holds your belongings short or long term until it is.

Licensing and Protection for Your Belongings

Jones Moving & Storage is a licensed and insured mover. Our USDOT number is 1851763 and our MC number is 670510, and you can check both on the FMCSA SAFER system before you book.

For moves that cross state lines, federal rules give you two levels of liability coverage:

  • Released Value Protection is the basic level. It pays by the weight of the damaged item, not its value, so it covers far less than most people expect.
  • Full Value Protection costs more, but under it the mover must repair the item, replace it, or pay its current value if it is lost or damaged.

Before you sign, read the FMCSA’s Protect Your Move guide. If you are leaving Arizona, our long-distance moving services page explains how interstate moves are planned and priced. Ask which valuation option applies to your move when you request your quote, so you know your coverage before moving day.

Moving Around Phoenix: Neighborhoods, Access and Heat

A move in Phoenix depends a lot on where you are going. Here is what we plan for in different parts of the city.

North Phoenix and Deer Valley

This is our home turf. Our office on N 19th Ave is in Deer Valley, so moves in North Phoenix start close to where our trucks are based. If your subdivision has an HOA, check its rules on truck parking and move hours, and send them to us with your quote request.

Encanto, Willo and the Historic Districts

Homes in Phoenix’s historic districts often date from the early and middle 1900s. Doorways, hallways and closets can be narrower than in newer builds, and mature trees can limit where a truck stands at the curb. Mention steps, narrow doorways or a tight curb when you request your quote, so the crew and truck are planned around them.

Arcadia and Biltmore

Arcadia’s larger lots can mean a longer carry from the truck to the front door, which adds time on both ends of the move. If you live in a condo building around the Biltmore area, ask the management office how move times and elevator use are booked. Pass those details on with your quote request and we plan the crew and timing around them.

Downtown and the Central Avenue Corridor

For a high-rise Downtown or along Central Avenue, ask your building about loading dock access and elevator reservations before you pick a date. Share what they tell you when you request a quote, and see our apartment moving crews page for how high-rise moves work.

Ahwatukee, Desert Ridge and Laveen

Ahwatukee and Desert Ridge are master-planned communities, and Laveen has grown quickly with newer subdivisions. If your community has a gate or an HOA, send us the gate instructions and any rules on truck parking with your quote request so the crew can start on time.

Moving in the Summer Heat and Monsoon Season

Summer is one of the busiest moving seasons in Phoenix. We recommend early-morning start times when the temperature is lower, and we suggest keeping heat-sensitive items such as electronics, medications, candles and important documents with you rather than on the truck. From mid-June through September, monsoon storms can bring afternoon dust and sudden rain, so keep boxes indoors until the crew is ready to load them.

New to Phoenix?

If you are moving here from another state, expect sunshine most of the year, mild winters, and desert hiking close to town at Camelback Mountain, Piestewa Peak and Papago Park. Valley neighborhoods differ a lot in age, lot size and HOA rules, so a quick call with us about your new address helps us plan the right crew and truck.

Phoenix Moving FAQs

Your price depends on how much you are moving, the distance between addresses, how easy each home is to get in and out of, and extras such as packing, specialty items or storage. Local moves are usually priced by the hour, and long-distance moves by weight and distance. Jones Moving & Storage gives you a free, itemized quote with no hidden fees before moving day.

A standard local move covers loading, transport and unloading by a Jones Moving & Storage crew and truck, plus furniture disassembly and reassembly on request. Packing, unpacking, specialty items such as pianos or hot tubs, and storage can be added. Your itemized quote lists every service included, so you can see what you are paying for before moving day.

Book local moves 4 to 6 weeks ahead and long-distance moves 6 to 8 weeks ahead. In Phoenix, summer, weekend and end-of-month dates fill up first, so reserve those early. If your timeline is shorter, call (623) 221-3335 and we will check the schedule, because we accommodate shorter timelines whenever we can.

October through April brings the mildest weather for a Phoenix move. Summer is one of the busiest seasons, so if you move between June and September, ask for an early-morning start and keep electronics, medications, candles and documents in your air-conditioned car. Monsoon season, from mid-June through September, can also bring afternoon dust storms and sudden rain.

It depends on where the truck will park. Most moves load from a driveway or a building’s loading area. If the truck may need to stand on the street instead, check with the City of Phoenix before moving day. Also check with your HOA, building or property manager about truck access and move hours, and share those rules with us so we can plan around them.

Yes. Jones Moving & Storage is licensed and insured, and both of our federal numbers, USDOT #1851763 and MC #670510, can be checked on the FMCSA website. For interstate moves, federal rules offer two coverage levels: Released Value Protection and Full Value Protection. Ask which valuation option applies to your move when you request your quote.

Yes. Jones Moving & Storage handles interstate moves to and from Phoenix, as well as in-state moves across Arizona. Long-distance moves are priced by weight and distance, and we recommend booking 6 to 8 weeks ahead. If your new home isn’t ready when you leave Phoenix, we can hold your belongings in secure, climate-controlled storage, short or long term, until it is.

We serve all of Phoenix, from North Phoenix and Deer Valley, where our office on N 19th Ave is located, to Encanto, Willo, Arcadia, Biltmore, Desert Ridge, Ahwatukee, Laveen and Downtown Phoenix. We also move customers to and from neighboring cities such as Glendale, Scottsdale and Peoria.

Tipping is up to you. Some customers tip each mover a set amount for a half day or a full day, and others add a little more for heavy items, lots of stairs or a hot summer move, and cold drinks are always appreciated.
